Did cool toys like this exist when we were kids?

Personally I am starting to suspect that they did exist but the parents in town made a pact that nobody would purchase one and no advertising would be done in the Leader. Just think of how much longer it took for us to get anywhere on our stick ponies and pogo sticks!!!

Powerwheels came out in the mid-80s but were prohibitively expense for most people. A family friend had one but I was just getting to be old enough to not care. still for their coolness, they don't come close to either the Sit-N-Spin or Hippity Hops for top fun factor.

I had a Dukes of Hazzard Hot Wheels that I'm still pretty damn proud of. That of course was all leg power. Damn kids these days just have to push a pedal. That might be reason why there are 3rd graders out there that weigh more than I did when I was a freshman.

That is a cool toy! Cute picture!

Thanks for hanging out with us Friday night. We are still laughing about your MIL's cooking!

I had the Dukes of Hazzard BW too!! I remember one particular Big Wheel race, likely the only one I ever participated in. It was downtown on main street. 3 racers at a time, drag race-style. I was so confident that I was going to go Don "the Snake" Prudohme on them. Nobody had a chance against me. As you may recall from your big wheel days, if you pedaled too hard too fast, you spumn the big, plastic front wheel, essentially going noqwhere in the process. Slow & steady to start usually got you going, and from there, you just peddaled you ass off to a side-skidding conclusion somewhere down the sidewalk.

So you can imagine what happens in my only big wheel race attempt. i think I lost to two girls on Barbie big wheels in the process of me desperately spinning my wheels. Really a metaphor for a good majority of my formative years, actually. After that soul-crushing debacle, I trashed the Dukes of Hazzard ride, and upgraded to what was THE hottest Big Wheel of the time......the Knight Rider. Digital readouts, the light bar up front....even KITT talking to you! (Okay, it was all stickers, and KITT was actually me talking to myself.) Just like a teenage boy, there's no better way to stroke your lack of self-esteem when you're 6 than getting a Knight Rider Big Wheel.

JB, you and I are truly separated at birth...

I, too, had the Knight Rider big wheel, and actually cried when I opened it.

Just sat there on it, with my forehead on the "digital" dash and just sobbed......

Then I punched myself in the face and got out and yanked off the red brake trying to do ultimate K.I.T.T. skidding stop.

But who needs brakes, right?

Oh, and my father already has his eye on the F150 for my youngest. Good followup to my oldest's red Mustang convertible!
